A warrior was not made in 1948. Tear drop tank emblems were last made in 1942. Do you have a picture you can post?

He thinks he would have been 5 or 6. That memory is a cherished one because the bike would go on to […] -

Hi there, my name is Diane and I picked up a 50cc bike a few weeks back. The owner said he was pretty sure it was an Indian. Needed work and he never got around to it, so now I have it. I did a little research and found that Indian company imported Italjet 50cc during the 70’s and the bike does say made in Italy next to the serial#29419 and on…[Read more]

Bill,
You might try Randy Walker at Walker Machine. He has done a few Powerplus bikes and may be of some help. He has a web page but I don’t have his email address off hand. You don’t have an extra oil tank for a 17′ by chance do you?
Regards,
TR

I have a 1918 Powerplus which I am trying to get rideable. It’s in pretty good shape, but I am in need of some technical information related to magneto timing and control linkages. Can anyone give me a lead on a source for a service manual or an expert on this age Indian?
Thanks, Bill

ebay has a number of dealers who offer factory starters for 00 Chiefs at very reasonable prices. I have seen a few still out there that are all chrome for a few extra $.
Aardvark makes a heavy duty starter relay for 99-03 Chiefs that is highly recommended. Uses a Bosch Relay and inline 20A fuse very easy yo install this along with a chrom…[Read more]

Yeah that sounds like it. You can rebuild the solenoid or buy a new starter. A new starter from indian motorcycle leslie would run 270.00 and it includes the solenoid bypass button. Good luck.&

Thanks guys, I have the starter out with your hepl.
The Starter is a Compu-lite high torque, is this a stock starter for the 2000 indian?
Also, when I pulled off the end cover on the solinoid I can see a burnt copper contact, I am thinking that is the problem.

The system is dry. The gasket can harden and get brittle. The gaskets they sell at indian motorcycle leslie are very tough and can be reused many times. If its not on the website you can call them. They stock alot of parts.

The seals that they sell are made of a graphite and if you don’t tear them they can be reused many times. They are very tough. Even though you have a dry clutch system it may need the gasket changed.

The primary is a pretty thick gasket with a rubber seal embedded in the middle, if the rubber is still soft you could reuse it if you think your going to have it bck off real soon.

I did not realize I would need a gasket for the primary side, I thought it was a dry system there.
Is it dry, or just need a gasket to keep things clean?

Trip, First make sure that the red LED on the ignition module behind the coil is turning on then off when you first turn the key on. If it is working then the starter is probably the problem. They’re not bad to change. Removal of the outer primary and the oil tank is needed. At the website is gave they have a starter and a gasket kit that…[Read more]

Chopper6, The relay was ok, I bought a new one local and it did not fix the problem. I have checked with a meter and I am getting 12 volts to the starter when I push the starter button. Does this mean a new starter? And if so, how much trouble is it to change?
