Dear jj6143… during the 30’s and 40’s Indian as Harley made many models. To play with these old motorcycle you must be a kind of “doityourself” biker. Generally the less you pay for a machine the more work to be done you will have. A 1940 sport scout, chief or four have a lot of difference in term of value. It’s impossible to put an “average…[Read more]

I was wondering what the average cost will be to get a 1930’s – 40’s Indian that is running but needs some TLC? I am just curious what I can expect to pay per the average member’s experience. I am open to suggestion on other American bikes to consider that mite cost me a little less $ and cause me less frustration

We make the exhaust system, and have an extensive stock of original and some reproduction parts, just let us know what you need.

If this is your first antique bike, your better off getting one that is running. Fixing or even finding the correct parts can be a nightmare! Of course all the parts that are missing are the most exspensive and elusive things to find too. Your time and money ahead to find one up and running. It took me eight years to find out what the part…[Read more]

I grew up on dirt bikes in Arizona and have been riding a friends extra bike for a while now. I’d like to get a bike but don’t have a lot of money to throw around. I would like to get something I can put together myself. I figured I would be better off buying something badly in need of repair and buying what I need as the money comes along. I do…[Read more]

Check valve settings, and retorque head bolts if it has not been worked on since intial rebuild. It can be harder to start if valve clearences are loose. 4 thousands intake, 6 thousands exhaust. cold.

Its better to have the carb bracket on bottom of float bowl down to little stud in case. Also check that you have the top motor bracket, between the heads above intake manifold bolted to lug on frame. This should be shimmed so theres no stress on head bolts.
Best way to check advance, pop dist. cap off, kick engine, turn dist. in same…[Read more]

Hello,
I’m a new guy here and have some questions about a bike I inherited from my Dad when he passed earlier this year. The bike is a 1941 Indian Chief that he had another guy build for him. It is a bobber style bike that came out really nice. I will try to post some pictures later when I get the chance. After he got this bike completed, he…[Read more]

I double checked with Gary here and he told me that it is a 1949 Scout NOT a 1949 Warrior.
Gary stated that they did not make a Warrior in 1949. He believes that whoever owned it before you probably just put the decal on there because they liked it.
Plus the oil you would want to use 50 weight racing oil which is what we use on the bikes h…[Read more]

No one has really answered back on it. I’m thinking Gary Stark should know. They have the later models in their collection, I think. Just to make sure you get the right oil in there. 160 Thanks Iron Redskin, That helps a bunch.
Still trying to figure out what I have though. Can anyone help me out with what model Indian I have? -

Hello all. I have recently become an IMCA member and I just purchased my first Indian. I’m a newbie to the Indian and motorcycle world and I live in a small town in Wyoming where I’m having a hard time finding someone to help answer my questions.
First off, on the title to the Indian that I bought it says it’s a 1949, I match the frame and engine…[Read more] -

The Indian red in the later years was a slight variation of the early color. It is noticeable to both the experienced novice as well as the experts. I suppose its just a choice of preference.

nbsp;Hello Tom, yes I think that these “indian red” would be OK. The “indian red” was in their catalogue until they closed the Factory in 1953. Maybe they are not a PERFECT match….but very OK . Get a sample from a supplier and if you like it then use it.
